Hot-air ballooning : FAQ
1/Free ballooning and tethered ballooning: what's the difference?
Free flight is the type of flight usually offered by hot-air balloon companies. A free balloon flight is made at the whim of the wind. The flight lasts about an hour.
The captive balloon is a tethered balloon that performs ascents lasting from 5 to 10 minutes. The tethered balloon is most often used by companies at events to promote the balloon envelope, and to delight their guests by offering them their first flights.
2/ How do you fly in a hot-air balloon?
Flying a hot-air balloon is flying with the wind. During the flight, the pilot plays with the wind to try and steer the balloon.
The aerostation is chosen according to wind conditions, close to a Loire château(Château de Chenonceau, Château d'Amboise or Château du Lude) to maximize the chances of flying over the Loire Valley heritage.
3/The hot-air balloon: how does it work?
Before the flight, you'll witness the balloon's envelope being inflated - a magical moment!
The balloon is inflated with air using fans. The air is heated by the balloon's burners.
In order to get off the ground and stay airborne, heating is regular.
Warm air is lighter than cold air.
For a soft landing, the balloonist reduces heating
4/The balloon trip: the different stages?
Hot-air balloon flights are always scheduled at sunrise or sunset, when weather conditions are most favorable.
After a safety briefing, passengers take part in the balloon inflation, a breathtaking moment when the envelope unfurls its curves.
You'll then climb aboard the gondola for an unforgettable 1-hour wind-driven experience.
After take-off, during this sightseeing flight, you'll discover the breathtaking scenery of our magnificent region, and perhaps have the chance to brush the treetops and spot some game.
On landing, our team member will join you to fold the balloon. This is followed by the famous "pot de l'aérostier", a convivial moment when everyone shares their emotions over a glass of champagne.
